Overview

 

Develops and implements strategies to direct the manufacturing and warehousing teams in achieving efficiency, quality, and safety as well as, productivity through maintaining a date driven culture of continuous improvement. Ensures processes and procedures of high-quality products at the lowest unit cost and manages staff to ensure the integrity, regulatory compliance (USDA, FDA, OSHA and DOT), applicable shipping / receiving procedures and inventory control compliance.

Responsibilities

 

Effective Production:

  • Develops warehousing and freight strategies consistent with overall business plans to ensure ability to deliver planned business results
  • Develops a team and structure that can flex to meet the demands of the business
  • Aligns priorities with the direction of the broader organization to meet the demands of needs of the customer
  • Manages warehouse and delivery labor scheduling to ensure deadlines and quality specifications are met in accordance with internal and regulatory guidelines
  • Establishes and maintains cross functional relationships in a matrix, functionalized organization

 

Compliance:

  • Ensures compliance with internal and external guidelines, including, but not limited to USDA, OSHA, Food Safety regulations and DOT compliance.
  • Maintains an environment and culture focused on the safety of the team members
  • Manages both the Warehouse and Delivery departments (all non-production related operations) that meets or exceeds certification levels of external audit standards (GFSI)

 

Sustainable Operation Improvement:

  • Establishes and manages metrics used to define performance
  • Guides warehousing and delivery teams through in-depth analysis and resolution of strategic issues
  • Solid understanding o f key drivers of operational performance (Six Sigma, lean continuous improvement, etc) and their use in developing strategies for driving efficiency
  • Collaborate on assignments and projects that enhance the overall Operations function, with an emphasis on Fleet Maintenance.
  • Influence Fleet Managers to work within payroll and operational budget.
  • Coordinate with Operating Units to ensure equipment upgrades and repairs are completed efficiently, effectively, and within budget.
  • Maintain business relationships with fleet maintenance vendors, including contracts and necessary agreements.
  • Develop innovative and cost-reducing strategies for the fleet of the future.
  • Achieve assigned results and preserve capital investments in facilities and equipment.
  • Create and implement facilities maintenance schedule for equipment and systems.
  • Support the preparation, forecasting, and budgeting for total Operations department, assisting in monitoring expenses and preparing long-term fleet plans.
  • Exercise leadership skills to influence leaders across the Food Group.
  • Provide communications of the overall branch goals and initiatives to Operations Associates.
  • Attend department and team meetings.  Facilitate project meetings.
  • Support safety programs, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Supervision:

  • Operations (Warehouse) Supervisor(s) and all Warehouse + Delivery Employees 

Qualifications

Education & Work Experience

 

  • High school graduate or equivalent, college degree preferred
  • Five years of operations management experience required, preferably in a refrigerated / frozen environment.
  • General business knowledge in the warehousing and manufacturing industry
  • Experience using continuous improvement tools, such as Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Abilities to communicate effectively (oral and written) to all levels of the organization
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to facilitate and manage change
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative assessment skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to constructively challenge ideas and assumptions
  • Must possess strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Strong computer skills and experience applying these techniques to analyze and measure productivity
  • Knowledge and experience with  inventory reports
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills, including compiling and analyzing data
  • Accurate and proficient in calculations, reading graphs, analyzing trends, organizing workload, trouble-shooting in problem areas, manage, negotiate, etc
  • MS Office environment experience required, (i.e., Excel, Access, Word, etc.)
  • Skilled communicator; listening, coaching, counseling, and praising associates in and maintaining a positive working environment with all levels of Associates
